Longtime Oakville musician Sean Reyes is proof that it doesn't take a large record label to be noticed in the industry. The singer/songwriter/producer has just picked up the Best Male Pop Artist at this year's Indie Music Channel Awards, held in Hollywood, California. The awards ceremony was recently held at The Legendary House of Blues. "I am honoured," the 30-year-old said. "I was honoured to just be nominated. To win an award such as that is amazing and I'm so grateful for it." Along with the award, Reyes was nominated for four more categories -- best male rock artist, best rock song, best rock video and best pop video -- for his debut single All I Ever Need. "I was surprised more at the fact that I was nominated for five awards than the fact that I came home with one of them," he said. The award comes after several years of perseverance for the Oakville man. In 2009, he suffered a traumatic head injury; however, this did not stop him from pursuing a musical career and he continued to write and promote his own material. Eventually a radio station picked up two of his demos. Since then, he's focused on writing a full length album, titled Know Thyself, which is scheduled for release in the next few months.
