Of eight students to earn top marks, one is male Seven of the eight students graduating with the highest academic average at each of Halton's Catholic secondary schools are female. Each member of the group will receive a Governor General Bronze Medal, awarded annually across Canada to students graduating with the highest average at their high school. The academic averages of the eight students at the Halton Catholic board range from a low of 93 per cent to a high of an almost perfect 98.5 per cent. The only male of the exclusive group, Farah Musharbash of Oakville's St. Ignatius of Loyola, led all Halton Catholic graduating high school students with a 98.53 per cent average. Not only that, the graduate knows a thing or two in math and science. Musharbash achieved final grade scores of 100 per cent in his final year in biology, chemistry, physics and calculus classes. Other Oakvillians to achieve the feats of having the highest grade averages in their graduating classes include Anna Louise Longrigg of Holy Trinity who had a 96.6 per cent grade average and Trishia Rae Jamison of St. Thomas Aquinas with 93. In Burlington, the three students to receive a GG Bronze Medal fell in-between the low and high averages: Claire Kocharakkal of Corpus Christi had an overall average of 95.27 per cent; Sabrina Kirby of Notre Dame had 94.94 per cent; and Kailey Elizabeth Meehan of Assumption scored a 94.07. In Georgetown, Kate Harris at Christ the King achieved a 94 per cent average, and Nicole Sabater of Bishop Reding in Milton had a grade score of 93.53 per cent. The academic average is based on final marks in all Grades 11 and 12 courses. "Our board is extremely proud of the significant academic achievements of these students," Halton Catholic board Director of Education Michael Pautler said. "This medal of recognition is evidence of the many great and coached a basketball program at the YMCA, volunteered at Joseph Brant Hospital and was a tutor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton. In September, he will be at McGill University to study biological, biomedical and life sciences with the intent to go to medical school after with the hopes to become a surgeon. For more than 130 years, the Governor General's academic medals have recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students in Canada. The Amman, Jordan-born student also participated in school life, such as sports, mostly basketball. He also played basketball outside of school, including on a national team.
