The new high school will be located in west Oakville, at 2500 Grand Oak Trail, but will serve students from the entire region. Officials from the French Catholic school board (Conseil scolaire de district Catholique Centre-Sud (CSDCCS)), local politicians and future students held a groundbreaking ceremony on the grounds of the new school, to mark the start of construction. "We have every reason to be proud of this new facility, which will respond to the increasing demand for a French Catholic education in Halton Region," said CSDCCS Chair Yves Lévesque, in a news release. "This new school, which has been long awaited by parents in the community, will strive to broaden the horizons of its future students while solidifying the foundation of their French Catholic identities. The new school will have 450 students from Grades 7-12. Its feeder schools will be Oakville's Sainte-Marie, Burlington's Saint-Philippe and Milton's Saint-Nicolas. "By working together, we will be able to offer students an environment that is welcoming, spacious, and modern," said Director of Education Réjean Sirois, in the release. "The new École secondaire Catholique de Halton will be a select venue for excellence in education by offering facilities that are adapted to the learning methods of the 21st century. I would like to thank the Ministry of Education for its support, the city of Oakville for its collaboration and the people working at the Facility Services of our school board, for working tirelessly on the advancement of the CSDCCS's numerous construction and expansion projects." The French Catholic school board serves more than 14,500 students in its 42 elementary and nine secondary schools from the Niagara Peninsula to Peterborough and from Lake Ontario up to the Georgian Bay.
