Terry Fox Run raises more than $100K By John Bkila OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Sunday's weather forecast became the perfect setting for the weekend's annual Terry Fox Run in Oakville, which raised more than $110,000 for cancer research. While pledges are still coming in, according to organizers, this year's total has already surpassed the $92,000 in funds that was raised in 2011. "What a day. Words cannot describe the event," said Pam Damoff, Town councillor and chair of Oakville's Terry Fox Run. "When I arrived and saw the sun just starting to peak out over Lake Ontario, I thought, right now, Terry is smiling on us today." More than 1,000 people walked, ran, inline skated and biked along either a fivekilometre, 10K or 2K route at Coronation Park at this year's event -- a total of 300 more participants than in the previous year. "Team Darrell was out in full force and we had large teams from Ford of Canada, Hopedale Mall and Oakville Hydro, as well as several other teams," said Damoff. "It was great to see so many people and all the comments we received were positive." The day also held a surprise for Damoff, as 3 · Wednesday, September 19, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Town councillor and run chair Pam Damoff surprised with Diamond Jubilee medal WELL-KEPT SURPRISE: Town Councillor and Oakville Terry Fox Run Chair Pam Damoff hugs Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn after he surprised her with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal before the start of the run.
