Run for Terry Fox this Sunday Continued from page 5 9 · Wednesday, September 12, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com donated Freezies, which his family will be providing at no charge to participants as a thank you for the support he has received from the community. New this year are special road signs -- `In Memory' and `In Honour' -- which cost $5 each. They are a moving way to pay tribute to a special person you know who has had cancer or lost their life to the disease. "We are inviting all residents of Oakville to purchase a sign either in memory or in honour of a friend or family member who has had or lost their battle with cancer," said Town Councillor and Chair of Oakville's Terry Fox Run Pam Damoff. "We hope everyone will personalize their signs with special messages, photos and other memories of their loved one and bring it to the run site on Sunday, Sept. 16, and post it along the run route for everyone to see." Signs can be purchased prior to run day by contacting Nathalie de Caen at ndecaen@hotmail.com. They can also be purchased at Coronation Park on the morning of the event. Markers will be provided by volunteers to create a tribute card. Pledge sheets can be downloaded at www.terryfoxrun.org. Registration is also available on-site the day of the run. All Terry Fox Runs are organized by volunteers and the Terry Fox Foundation is a leader among charitable causes in terms of low administration and fundraising expenditures. The foundation said it is proud of the fact that 84 per cent of all funds donated -- by Canadians of all ages and through international Terry Fox Runs -- go directly to research into treatments for all forms of cancer.
