In mathematics, Halton public students had a success rate of 66 per cent, Catholic students David Euale 72 per cent and the provincial average was 58 per cent. Grade 9 students were only tested for mathematics, with two versions of the EQAO exam, one for academic-level students and one for applied-level students. At the Halton public school board, students had a pass rate of 91 per cent in academic math and 54 per cent in applied math. Catholic students had a pass rate of 89 per cent in academic math and 61 per cent for applied. The provincial averages are 84 per cent for academic and 44 per cent for applied math. Both local school boards, and province-wide, pass rates have generally increased year over year. "We are pleased with the continued improvement of our students on these provincial assessments," said David Euale, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board, in a news release. "We are grateful to our teachers, educational assistants, administrators and system leaders for their dedication to student achievement." "We are pleased with these results and are particularly encouraged by the number of students in each area who continue to achieve the provincial standard from one assessment to the next," said Michael Pautler, Director of Education, Halton Catholic District School Board, in a press release. The exams test students in reading, writing and mathematics to see if they meet the provincial standard. Halton students at both the public and Catholic school boards have had a higher rate of passing the tests than the provincial average. In Grade 3 reading, the public board had a pass rate of 73 per cent and the Catholic board had a rate of 80 per cent, compared to the provincial average of 66 per cent. Grade 3 writing results show the public students had a pass rate of 79 per cent, the Catholic students 88 per cent, while the provincial average was 76 per cent. Grade 3 math testing had 75 per cent of local public students pass, 83 per cent of Catholic students, while the average was 68 per cent. Halton Grade 6 students showed the same above-average rate. In reading, 82 per cent of public school students passed and 84 per cent of Catholic students passed, compared to the province's pass rate of 75 per cent.
