QEPCCC part of Doors Open Oakville/Culture Days The Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) is celebrating Doors Open Oakville and the Town's Culture Days this Saturday (Sept. 29). The more than 144,000 square-foot arts and cultural hub will be a featured Doors Open Oakville site and the centre attraction for Culture Days 2012. Culture Days is a free, interactive celebration of arts and culture from coast to coast. It was conceived in response to the growing recognition that a vibrant arts and cultural sector contributes directly to a healthy and stable society, stated a press release. In partnership with the Oakville Arts Council and the facilities community cultural members, the QEPCCC will provide free interactive activities for every one of all ages. This event will feature art activities, fibre arts, pottery, dance, musical performances, exhibits, and much more. Visit www.culturedays.ca for more information and a full listing of activities. The QEPCCC had its official grand-opening earlier this year in March, where more than 6,500 people attended all-day performances, demonstrations, classes and workshops. The Town's new recreation, arts and cultural hub was part of a renovation to build a community centre that meets the recreational needs of Oakville -- while providing a home to the many non-profit arts and cultural groups in Oakville. "I'm positive that our interactive design is going to encourage cross-collaboration among all of our groups here," Oakville Mayor Rob Burton said at the grandopening. "This is not just a community centre. This is not just a cultural centre. This is an arts and culture village. We're being very true to our heritage (with) what we've done with this building." The facility boasts an aquatics centre, two gyms, a youth centre, a seniors' centre, dance studios, a recording studio, fine arts studios, a rehearsal hall, black box theatre, gallery, museum space and swimming pool, among others. It also features culture rooms as requested by local arts groups. Located at 2302 Bridge Rd., the former Queen Elizabeth Park High School site was approved by Town council for renovation in 2009. The QEPCCC is currently home to 13 arts groups, with more expected to join in the fall. Doors Open Oakville is this Saturday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and will feature 30 sites across town for people to explore free of charge.
