Remembrance Day concerts this Saturday and Sunday Masterworks of Oakville Chorus and Intrada Brass will present a Remembrance Day concert Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 10 and 11). The concert is Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace. It is the most performed work by a living composer in the world today. The Armed Man by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins was a United Kingdom Millennium commission and was dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis. It is an anti-war piece, based on the Catholic Mass and combined with other religious and historical sources including the Islamic call to Prayer, Psalms, Revelation and the Mahabharata. The concert will take place on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1150 Monks Passage. It will feature soloists: Lorilee McGuirl (soprano); Heidi Cyfko (mezzo soprano); Rudy Knispel (tenor); William Price (bass); and Ali Zafar (Muezzin). In attendance, the hosting music groups will have some of Canada's veterans, a Colour Guard from the Royal Canadian Legion, and on Sunday they will welcome representatives from the Royal Newfoundland Fencible Regiment (1812).
