Library to host bestselling mystery author O akville Public Library has hosted a number of renowned literati over the years, and the list keeps growing. We're pleased to announce Louise Penny -- bestselling author of the Armand Gamache mystery series -- will be visiting us in the new year to discuss her latest instalment, The Beautiful Mystery. After an 18-year career as a radio host and journalist with the CBC, Penny decided to pursue her childhood dream of completing (not even publishing) a book. To her surprise, the first novel she wrote placed second in an international crime-writing competition. Her bestselling mystery series follows Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, head of the homicide department of the Sûreté du Québec. The novels feature many hallmarks of the British whodunit genre, including murders by unconventional means, bucolic villages, large casts of suspects, red herrings and a dramatic disclosure of the murderer in the last few pages of the book. Penny has published seven novels to date, all of which have either won or been nominated for prestigious crime-writing awards. She has appeared on multiple international bestseller lists including the New York Times, Maclean's, Publishers Weekly, USA Today and NPR. Tickets for Penny's Jan. 31, 2013 appearance at the Oakville Conference Centre will be available online and in all library branches on Dec. 15. Tickets cost $12 (+HST) and include desserts and refreshments. For more information, visit www. opl.on.ca. -- Submitted by the Oakville Public Library EVERYTHING MUST GO!
