Rotary Club helps The Lighthouse The Rotary Club of Oakville has provided The Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children with $2,600 in funding. The Lighthouse Program provides children and teens (aged three to 18 years), and their families, with support after they have experienced the death of an immediate family member. Counselling occurs through free peer-support groups for as long as they need it to help them heal. "I am so very grateful, on behalf of the Lighthouse families, for the Rotary of Oakville's sponsorship of two children for an entire year at the Lighthouse," said Britta MartiniMiles, Lighthouse executive director, in a news release. "We know that many of our children stay at least one year with their peers in the support group to mark the first year following their parent's or sibling's death in a supportive environment: not having to face the first Christmas, first birthday, first back-to-school day on their own. "This support is vital to build courage and hope and to allow the child to re-invest in their lives after a life-altering death." The Lighthouse Program serves Halton and Peel regions.
