In December 2012, Stoate went before Town council and announced it was short by $100,000. "One of the turning points of this campaign came when the mayor kind- ly invited us to speak to council. When the situation we were facing was highlighted, Oakvillians stepped up," said Stoate. United Way Oakville CEO Brad Park said Stoate went above and beyond to help spread the word about UWO and utilized his social media to reach out. "Chris committed to making sure everyone in Oakville knew the need and how they could help. I've worked with a lot of campaign chairs and I can honestly say I've not met (anyone) who is more tenacious (and) more devoted," said Park. Stoate said with the help of its donors, UWO supports 33 local agen- FLOOR MODEL 15% OFF REGULAR PRICED ITEMS * cies that assists approximately 30,000 people in the community. "The United Way provides base funding for these agencies, which allows them to go out and raise further funds," said Stoate. Some of the agencies funded by UWO include the Halton Trauma Centre, Community Living Oakville, CNIB, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton, Oakville Distress Centre, St. John Ambulance, and Oakville ParentChild Centre, among others. The agencies focus on strengthening families, supporting independence and well-being in seniors and those in crisis and promoting self-sufficiency. The 2011 campaign was chaired by Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, CEO and president of Sheridan College. For the second consecutive year, Sheridan was given the Community Leadership Giving Campaign of the Year award. "This is very close to my heart. I can't go very far from the United Way (because) it's in my blood. You can check out, but you can never leave when it comes to the United Way," said Zabudsky.
