Online condolences may be offered at www.oakviewfuneral.ca PISCHEL, Norman Alexander Passed away peacefully at the Ian Anderson House, Oakville on January 25th, 2013 at the age of 36, surrounded by his loving Family. Cherished son to Werner and Renate, and brother to Corina and Tom. Proud and loving Uncle to Bianca and Adriana. He was a childhood cancer survivor (brain tumour) at the age of 7, and who went on to be a thriving Oakville resident and active volunteer in the c o m m u n i t y. H e w a s a t a l e n t e d woodworker and always faced every life challenge with a positive smile and a "go with the flow" attitude. Unfortunately in the last year he had to bravely battle cancer once again and this time God had greater plans for him. The family wishes to thank the Rebounders Canada, Dr. Sarah St. James, and all the nurses and volunteers at the Ian Anderson House for all of their care and compassion. Friends will be received at a private Celebration of Life on Saturday February 2nd from 2 - 5 p.m. at the Pischel residence. John was the son of Janet Macdonald and Joseph Wood, brother of Margaret Jarvis and Katherine Sykes, and valued son-in-law of Stewart and June Daymond. He was the much-loved brother-in-law of Peter Jarvis, Bryan Sykes, Gail Daymond & Glenn Piotrowski, Alan & Diane Daymond and Neil Daymond. He was a cherished uncle of David and Jennie Jarvis, Ben Sykes, Katie, Andrew, Amy, Kiri & William Piotrowski; Nick, Tom, and Senna Daymond. John was an Olympic athlete who won silver at the Montreal Olympics in 1976 making him the first Canadian Olympic medalist in canoeing since 1952. He won silver at the 1977 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with partner Gregg Smith and bronze in sailing at the 1979 Pan Am Games. John went on to build a career as a respected investment advisor and entrepreneur. He loved studying history and art, enjoyed music, and was a passionate advocate for "clean" athletic competition. In recent years he was happiest swinging the golf club with family and friends at The Toronto Golf Club and around the world. John was known and loved for his inquiring mind, his honesty, and his hard working, generous spirit. Amongst his pursuits were snowboarding in Whistler, surfing off of Vancouver Island, and driving well over the speed limit - but only ever crashing his car inside the garage. As a close friend said, "It was easy to love him; he was a truly sweet man, never had a negative moment with him, never quarrelled on the golf course -- but I think he owes me money from our last game -- just kidding." Fred was the devoted husband of Carol for over 51 years, and the loving and supportive Dad of the late Sandra Fournier (1999), Susan Rivers and Steven. Condolences through www.koprivataylor.com ROBERTSON, Kenneth Herbert 1927 - 2013 Dad passed away peacefully in the company of his family in Calgary, AB on Sunday, January 13, 2013. Kenneth is survived by his daughter and best friend Kathryn Christine (Dr. John V.M. McGrath and family), Calgary and favourite son Kenneth Scott Robertson, granddaughters Emily and Elaine as well as the mother of his children, Patricia Kathryn Robertson, all of Oakville, ON. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Donald George Robertson of NY, USA. Ken was a fellow who loved music, mechanics and sales during his lifetime and had been an inspiration to whomever he encountered. An accomplished pianist, he played at the Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto. Home was Oakville after he and Patricia married for some 40 years. Dad owned Robertson's Esso Service on Lakeshore Road and was always there for a friend or neighbour in need. This generous spirit was a part of his life always. He loved laughter, practical jokes and anyone who had learned to "think for themselves". Dad was a constant support to his children. He often spoke of his father advising him that "laughter was the lubricant of life" and to this end he persisted with that amazing talent, in spite of his illness. In the latter years of Dad's life, he suffered with Parkinson's disease. Dad tested his disease to its absolute extreme. Everything required work and work he did every day of his life. His intellect could not be challenged. Great survival techniques, Dad, we are very proud! From Cradle to the Grave For all the things you'd do For everything you gave, We thank and applaud you. Predeceased by sister Mae and brother Stanley. He will be also missed by numerous nieces and nephews and his many friends he made throughout his life. Jim worked at many jobs in his lifetime. He was a mechanic for Kennedy Ford for many years until retirement, as well he was a projectionist for the old Odeon Theatre in downtown Oakville, following in his father's footsteps. Jim was a Past Master of Oakville Masonic 400, lifetime member of Scottish Rite, White Oaks Chapter, Knights of Templar and an amateur radio enthusiast. Born in Scotland, he moved with his family to Hamilton, then Oakville while still young. Jim was a lovely man who truly enjoyed meeting and talking to people. He always had a smile and always told people to "Have a good one". He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
