Meagan McLellan, 66, president of the Toronto-based cosmetics company Cellex-C International Inc., was named as the donor during Monday night's council meeting. McLellan, who primarily lived in Toronto, but also maintained residences in Oakville, died Thursday, Feb. 28 following a two-year battle with cancer. "Oakville has lost a great citizen," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton in an address at council. "She made the game-changing donation of $150,000 to save the great oak tree on Bronte Road. During her life, she did not ask for public recognition. As a self-made businesswoman from humble see McLellan p.3 After a nearly four-year hiatus, the Oakville Waterfront Festival will return this year for the Aug. 2-4 long weekend in Coronation Park. For 18 years, the festival that was held in late June, marked the beginning of summer in Oakville. That ended when it was cancelled for nancial reasons in 2009. Organizers said this resurrected event would be somewhat different from the festivals of the past. For starters it will be free. "We believe you are really going to love this festival. We have taken what was best about the old Waterfront Festival and we've added a whole bunch of new and exciting ideas," said Bill Smith, chair of Celebrate Oakville, the organization holding the event.
