www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, May 23, 2013 | 4 Alert: Your ash trees may be at MS Society's 1 Day in May The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is running a 1 Day in May campaign to raise awareness about the daily realities of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the lives of Canadians impacted by the disease. The symptoms of MS vary and oftentimes can't be seen -- some experience blotch spots in the their vision and other times they can fall because of issues with their balance, stated a press release. The 1 Day in May campaign encourages people to take one day this month to show their support for those impacted by MS. "Every single act, big or small, is a step towards a stronger community presence and the collective movement to help end MS in Canada," stated the release. There are several ways to show support. Earlier this month, the MS Walk was held in communities across Canada. There's an MS Carnation campaign to raise awareness and funds and an MS research webinar was held about the latest news in MS research. People are also encouraged to write to their local Member of Parliament (http://mssociety. ca/action/2013-05-03-Support-Secure-Jobs-andIncome) in support of secure jobs and income for people with MS. People can also visit local Canadian landmarks, such as Niagara Falls and the CN Tower, which will be lit up red on World MS Day, May 29 or share photos of what 1 Day in May means to you or World MS Day on Instagram and tag using #1dainMay. MS is most often diagnosed in young adults, aged 15 to 40 and is unpredictable, affecting vision, hearing, memory, balance and mobility. Its effects are physical, emotional, financial, and last a lifetime. There is no cure. For more information, visit www.1DayinMay. ca.
