"I think it's great," he said. "I think it's humbling and a pretty big honour from my hometown." Family members of those who served also appreciated the gesture made by the Town. Mary Davidson's son Graeme, who graduated from Oakville Trafalgar High School, served with a hospital unit in Afghanistan caring not only for wounded soldiers, but wounded civilians and even injured Taliban. "That turned out to be a pretty sad duty. They don't want to talk about it, but sometimes he would say it was pretty bad. What he liked was that they treated the Afghans and the people who actually laid bombs just like they would treat their own soldiers," she said. "It's really nice the Town is acknowledging what these young men do." Research, planning and construction of the new memorial took more than two years from inception to completion, with countless hours contributed by the Oakville and Bronte Legions, historians and volunteers. "We sincerely appreciate everyone who contacted the Town with information and names for the new memorial. We are indebted to our veterans and those who continue to actively serve our country," said Burton. George's Square is located on Trafalgar Road at Palmer Avenue.
