The Ivan Hlinka tournament will take place Aug. 5-10. Canada has had great success at the annual summer tournament, winning gold each of the last five years and 15 of the past 17. Provincial U17 invitees Seven members of last year's OHL Cup champion Oakville Rangers minor midget AAA team have been invited to attend next month's Ontario under-17 provincial camp. Rangers players to receive invites included Jesse Barwell, Andrew Burns, Kyle Capobianco, Adam Craievich, Sean Kohler, Brett McKenzie and Matt Spencer. Benjamin Blacker, an Oakville resident who played last season for the Brampton 45's, also received an invitation to the camp. All eight players were selected in April's Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, when a record 12 Rangers were picked by OHL squads. Sixty-eight players (34 from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association) will attend the U17 camp Aug. 14-18 in Oshawa, where coaches will determine the Ontario roster for the 2014 World Hockey Challenge in Cape Breton, N.S. 23 | Friday, July 12, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Hockey Briefs The coaching staff, headed by London Knights owner, president and head coach Dale Hunter, will select players from the camp to participate in next month's Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia. Last season as a rookie with the Mississauga Steelheads, Bourne had two goals, 10 assists and 30 penalty minutes. Bourne is the second Oakville resident in as many years and third in the past four to earn an invitation to the camp while playing for a Mississauga OHL club. Last summer, Steelheads netminder Spencer Martin -- a recent thirdround draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche -- participated in the camp. In 2010, Stuart Percy -- now a Toronto Maple Leafs prospect -- attended as a defenceman with the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. St. Vincent elementary school graduate Dominic Johnson, pictured (with ball) in action with his Oakville Crusaders team, has been selected to Ontario's junior rugby team. The provincial squad trains all summer long and will compete in several national tournaments, including a competition next month in Vancouver. Johnson, who will attend St. Thomas Aquinas high school in the fall, is following in the footsteps of his cousins Phil MacKenzie and Jamie MacKenzie, both of whom played for the Crusaders before suiting up for the men's national team. | photo submitted
