Humane Society hopes people will Fall for Felines The Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) will hold a special Fall for Felines Cat Adopt-a-thon, from Friday (Oct. 18) to Sunday, Oct. 27, in hopes of making room for the more than 100 cats recently rescued from a home in Halton Hills. With these additions, the humane society is virtually bursting at the seams with a total of close to 400 cats in its care. In an effort to take some of this pressure off the Cornwall Road shelter, adoption costs will be reduced during the adopt-a-thon to $75 for all adult cats and kittens older than six months. The adoption fee includes spay or neuter, all vaccines up to date, microchipping, six weeks of free pet insurance and a small bag of Hills Science Diet food. The regular adoption fee is $150. "We are hoping the reduced price will encourage people to adopt one or perhaps two of our really terrific adult cats," said Stephanie Aleksich, manager of customer care for the OMHS. "All our regular adoption procedures and protocols are in place for the adopt-a-thon, because we want people to make the `purrrfect' match with their new pet." While none of the 107 cats removed from a home in Halton Hills will be ready for adoption during the Fall for Felines Adopta-thon, the shelter has 290 other cats in need of good homes. The OMHS is located at 445 Cornwall Rd.
