www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Wednesday, December 18, 2013 | 8 Students invited to put pen to paper for annual Optimist essay contest The Optimist Club of Oakville invites students to take part in this year's essay contest for a chance to win cash prizes and a scholarship. The topic is How Dreams Lead to Success. "Young people today have so many fresh ideas about the world and their future," Optimist Club president Eric Roberts said in a press release. "As Optimists, it is our goal to encourage them and do what we can to bring out the best in each of them. This contest gives them a wonderful opportunity to tap into their creativity and pursue funding for their future education at the same time." The contest is open to students who have not yet graduated from high school (from Grades 9-12) and are under the age of 19 as of Feb. 28, 2014. The Optimist Club will judge local students' essays and award cash prizes to the top three students -- first prize is $500, second $350 and third $150. The winning essay will also be entered at the district level where the writer of the best essay in that contest will be awarded a $2,500 postsecondary school scholarship. The Optimist Club of Oakville has participated in the Optimist Essay Contest for more than 20 years and been active in the community since 1948.
