`Justice prevails for individual investor' continued from p.8 nies controlling the investment business. Here, in my opinion the "little guy" won the battle by a convincing margin. Justice did prevail for the individual investor. There is a fine line between profit, greed and the misuse of power. This case of market timing is one of many issues expressed by investors. Concerns about hidden mutual fund fees and the potential for a conflict of interest between investors, investment advisors and investment companies serving them are also expressed. There are two aspects to the December court ruling: fairness and protection. Fairness was given to individual investors against the powerful force of several large investment firms. The more significant factor is the question of whether this ruling is a shift towards better protection of the interests of individual investors. In this case, the court decision was a significant win for individual investors. -- Submitted by Peter Watson, MBA, CFP , R.F .P ., CIM, FCSI., Certified Financial Planner DECEMBER 27 TO JANUARY 4 BOXING WEEK SALE 17 | Thursday, January 2, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com 33 Years In Business 30% OFF FIBERGLASS FACTORY PAINTED DOORS AND WINDOWS up to 70% OFF ALL IN STOCK DOORS, WINDOWS AND HARDWARE 18 Years In A Row 2013 Monday - Friday 9:00am - 4:30pm Saturday 9:00am - 12:00pm Holiday Hours: Closed Dec 31 and Re-open Jan 2 4280 Harvester Road Unit 3 & 4 905.333.4044 info@thedoorcentre.ca WINTER SALE! 2014 PRE-BUDGET CONSULTATIONS CONSULTATIONS PRÉBUDGÉTAIRES 2014 The Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs will meet to conduct Pre-Budget Consultations.
