Brianne Jenner and the Canadian women's hockey team was to face the United States today (noon eastern) in the gold-medal match. The 22-year-old Jenner had eight shots in Canada's 3-1 win over Switzerland in Monday's semifinals and is tied for fourth on the team in shots (17) during the tournament, though she is still looking for her first point. Canada defeated the U.S. 3-2 during preliminary-round play. The Canadian men's hockey team, which includes John Tavares, advanced to the semifinals with a 2-1 win over Latvia yesterday (Wednesday). Canada will face the U.S. in tomorrow's (Friday's) semifinals. The bronze-medal game is scheduled for Saturday and the gold-medal contest for Sunday. Canada will have to do so without the 23-year-old Tavares. He left Wednesday's game after taking a check along the boards in the second period and Canadian coach Mike Babcock confirmed he is out for the remainder of the tournament. Kirsten Wall and the Canadian women's curling rink, skipped by Jennifer Jones, carried a perfect record into today's gold-medal match against Sweden (8:30 a.m. eastern). Wall is an alternate on the team and did not play in any of Canada's first 10 matches at the Games. Canada last won women's curling gold in 1998. King's Christian's Daniel Mansubi, Tyler Sloat and Sean Wilson posted second-place finishes in their divisions, with the Cavaliers' Andrew Ohi, Ethan Cumming, Nick Bueschkens and Matt Virgioni earning bronze medals to help King's finish second to Christ the King in the team standings. Darren Kocken of Abbey Park (83kg) was Oakville's other winner at the Halton championships.
