In the early hours, police received numerous calls about a group of vehicles speeding on Tra- falgar Road, which appeared to be racing, police said. Officers set up a speed measuring device at Trafalgar Road and McCraney Street and a short time later nine vehicles approached, travelling southbound in a tight pack, at speeds allegedly ranging from 120 to 127 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone. Police stopped all nine vehicles on Trafalgar Road and drivers were charged with racing un- der the Highway Traffic Act. They will appear in a Burlington Court May 13. The vehicles were all new Crossover SUVs being moved to the Ford plant from a storage lot in Milton. The drivers were not Ford employees, but worked for a third-party company hired by the automaker to shuttle vehicles, police said. Among the nine charged are eight men including: a 26 and 24 year old, both of Brampton, a 36 and a 52 year old, both from Whitby, a 28 year old from Oshawa, a 42 year old of Ajax, a 25 year old from Scarborough and a 26 year old of Toronto. A 27-year-old woman from Bobcaygeon was also charged. Police would not provide the names of the accused because they face Highway Traffic Act, not criminal, charges. Police would also not name the third-party company.
