The sun is beaming, the birds chirping and the sound of countless moving trucks rum bling fdls the air as Canadians across the country collectively change their addresses. Yes you guessed it - it's mov ing day. It's also a time of renewal for your home decor. A new home inevitably brings changes to an old look and most times that begins with window dress ings. "Typically people wait until the last minute to deal with dressing their win dows," said Yasmin Siboldi, Manager Visual Merchandising at Blinds To Go. "But what they don't know is that win dow coverings can set the tone for an entire decor and should be considered as one of its first elements." Before you start looking for the lat est trends and styles in window cover ings, make sure to measure your win dows accurately. Here are some of Blinds To Go's helpful measuring tips you can follow for your windows. Things to Remember: 1. Use a steel measuring tape for accuracy. 2. Measure the exact width of the window at 3 different places. Use the narrowest measurement and write it down 3. Measure the exact length from top of window opening to bottom sill. Use the shortest measurement and write it down. 4. Make all measurements to the nearest 1/8 -inch. 5. Do not lake your own deductions. The factory will take necessary deduc tions and allowances. 6 . Double-check all measurements. 7. Blinds may be mounted inside or outside the window casing. See below for specific instructions. Inside Mount The window covering w ill hang inside the window frame. 1 . Width (side to side): Measure the exact distance across the window from the inside edge of the frame to the oppo site inside edge in three places. Use the narrowest dimension. 2. Height (top to bottom): Measure the exact distance from the top inside edge of the frame to the bottom inside edge of the frame in three places. Use the longest dimension for horizontal coverings, and the shortest for vertical coverings. 3. Window Depth: The amount of space from the back of the window or obstruction to the window's outer edge. Flush Mount 1.50" for 1" and 1/2" Mini Blinds. 3/8" Cellular Pleat and Pleated Shades -I 2.25" for I " Wood Blinds and 3/4" Cellular Pleat 3.00" for 2" Aluminum Blinds and 2" Wood blinds J 4.75" for Vertical Blinds Outside Mount The window covering will hang out side the actual window frame, over lap ping the window frame for maximum privacy and light blockage. 1 . Please note that blinds require a flat surface for mounting. 2 . If you have a casement around your window, you may mount the headrail directly on the casement, but not on the wall outside of it. 3. In order to make the width of the blind extend beyond the width of the casement, it is necessary to mount the headrail above the casement.
