The Oakville Beaver, W ednesday April 24, 2002 - C7 Celebrities, artists and performers join forces to Celebrate Oakville The Oakville Children's Choir is hosting "an evening of excel lence" called Celebrate Oakville on Thursday. May 2. "W e wanted to provide an opportunity to showcase some of the incredible talent we have here in town that perhaps some of our residents are unaware of," says music director Glenda Crawford. The evening is also a fundrais er for the renowned Oakville Children's Choir. The professional performers embraced the concept of combining an evening of lively entertainment with a silent bird house auction, as did many Oakville-based celebrities and the artists' community in Oakville. Performances at Celebrate Oakville will include Mark DuBois. tenor. Carole Bertuzzi Lucianni, humourist; Russ Little, jazz trombonist and The Oakville Children's Choir. For the citizens of Oakville, this will be a rare opportunity to see most of these groups and indi viduals perform live in Oakville. The evening gets under way at 7:30 p.m. at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre. The audience will be seated at round tables with complimentary hors d'oeuvres at each table. A cash bar will be provided. Rounding out the evening will be a unique silent auction of more than 50 celebrity decorated or autographed birdhouses from Mayor Ann Mulvale. ballet star Veronica Tennant, canoeist Larry Cain, football star Pinball Clemoas. author Lawrence Hill, singer Tom Cochrane, hockey leg end Paul Henderson, artist Joyce Kellock and many more. Many of the celebrities and artists will be in attendance at the event. The support of the Oakville Art Society as well as many other individual artists has ensured that the quality of the birdhouses w ill be exceptional, one-of-a-kind, true works of art. Although the birdhouses will be weatherproofed, organizers are sure that many purchasers of the houses w ill choose to display the houses indoors. The birdhouse that celebrated Oakville artist Joyce Kellock dec orated for the mayor's autograph is a colourful depiction of Bronte Creek in each of the four seasons. "This event is a wonderful way to celebrate the richness of Oakville's artistic community' and to support a unique local organiza tion for our children," says Mulvale. " I hope Celebrate Oakxille will become an annual event." The Conference and Banquet Centre is located at 2525 Wyecroft Rd. in Oakville.
