www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Wednesday, August 27, 2014 | 4 Tim Hortons' headquarters will stay in Oakville: CEO continued from p.1 on the front of many kids' first hockey sweaters. "As an independent brand within the new company, this transaction will enable us to move more quickly and efficiently to bring Tim Hortons' iconic Canadian brand to a new global customer base," Caira said. Burger King will stay at its global home in Miami while Tim Hortons plans to remain at its current headquarters off of Trafalgar Road in Oakville. The restaurant's head office has been located in town since the 1970s and has approximately 950 employees. A headquarters for the parent company will be based in Canada but Tim Hortons executives told the Beaver on Tuesday it was "too early" to determine where it may be located. "In terms of where the new global headquarters I think it's way too early to get into that type of discussion," Caira said "We made a commitment that it will be somewhere in Canada so let's leave it at that and we'll see where it takes us as we start to work on the more finer details of this organization...." The Town of Oakville said it has not received any formal applications regarding the building of a new headquarters for the company. Mayor Rob Burton said he expects Oakville, with the sixth-lowest business tax rate among two-dozen Greater Toronto Area municipalities, will be scouted as a potential location. "I'm expecting that Oakville will be considered and I'm pretty sure our well-known features and attractions will give us a good shot at it," he said. Tim Hortons has 4,546 restaurants, including 3,630 in Canada, 866 in the U.S. and 50 in the Gulf Cooperation Council. Combined, Tim Hortons and Burger King now have approximately $22 billion in system sales and more than 18,000 restaurants in 100 countries worldwide. "I congratulate Tim Hortons and all of their employees on their great success," Burton said. "I'm confident that their talent, and experience and their skill are going to lead them to even greater success globally." A "key driver" in the discussion between the companies was the opportunity to leverage Burger King's worldwide experience in global development, while accelerating Tim Hortons' growth in international markets. Caira said the merger allows the company to be "bolder" as they look to expand their brand abroad. "In May, we marked the 50th anniversary of our company and today, we are taking a bold and assertive new step into the next 50 years," he said.
