A2 - The Oakville Beaver, W ednesday July 3, 2002 Trafalgar Lodge is ready to add 15 more rooms By Angela Blackburn OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Trafalgar Lodge is ready to expand. Its eyes are set on the property at 289 Randall Street -- right now a 1.5-storey. white stucco building that used to be a news paper -- at the northeast comer of Randall Street and Trafalgar Road. The empcy building is next to Trafalgar Lodge or Central Park Lodge, as it's formally known, at 145 Trafalgar Rd "It is the desire of Trafalgar Lodge to pur chase the subject site and construct an addi tion to the existing building." Town planner Jim Hosick told a recent Town of Oakville Planning and Development council. A three-storey addition -- that won coun cil approval -- would house 15 additional rooms. The land is zoned Central Business DistrictResidential subject to special provision. That allows for a variety of uses from retail and residential to service commercial and institu tional. Council agreed to give Trafalgar Lodge a revised spe cial provision that would allow for more units. At a public meeting in March, area resi dents voiced concerns about the addition's architecture, height, landscaping and park ing. A subsequent peer review conducted by Town staff showed that parking is more than adequate for the expanded building and that architectural designs can be wodfed out at the Site Plan Committee. The proposed three-storey. 15 one-bed room unit expansion would continue to use the Trafalgar Road driveway. The addition wouldn't change the park ing needs from the 28 parking spots that Trafalgar Lodge now has. Currently, there are 72 residents at Trafalgar Lodge whose average age is 85 years -- only two of whom drive and require parking. Area resident Marianne Hawthorne was at council to ask that neighbours be included in the Site Plan process since the neighbours place a pre miumon green space-- some of which will be lost with the expansion. While Trafalgar Lodge is near the Trafalgar Road Heritage District, it's just outside of the boundary, but considered to be in an historical district. $/orv& t * >ttw SowlM M E U D I OFFER O H 2 0 0 2 M O D U S ' on leases _______ 10N01INE VAN · GRAND MARQUIS · EJ^gmSPORT TRAC · WINDSTAR · TAURUS · r 0 CUH%PL 0 RER 4 DR · ESCAPE · MUSTANG · EXPLORER SPORT H e * 6 a £ M a g ic fr o r /te fy o ty , ttte> a c A e iv e ttty , & fc ,- 0 O K fr (fO a £ / " ·EkVJt P iu n O H tJrtjnClAoln Frjncrg a ncmtu* to60 O A C krt u rprtInki « 4 r a t i O AC jr ri » f a \t* into lo r 1395 Abbey wood Rd., Pilgrims Way Plaza tobe/wood Dr. |XlV 380 Dundas St. E Unit 9.
