North London opened the scoring in the 58th minute, when Kyle Buren beat Oakville keeper Benson Wieler from close range, and added an insurance marker in the 75th minute on Alejandro Salan's goal. The Elite controlled much of the second half -- particularly after going up 1-0 -- after Oakville had the majority of scoring chances early. "It should have been 3-0 by half, and we didn't put the ball in the net," said Oakville coach Darryl Hellam. "It was a good game, but we didn't put away our chances." Matthew Laic nearly opened the scoring for Oakville in the second half, blasting a shot just wide of the left goalpost off a feed from Christian Lopac. Tariq Gareau also had a good opportunity for Oakville off a free kick in the 67th minute, but could not tie the score. The game was a matchup of North London's size and speed versus Oakville's skill game. "(Our) team defied Ontario Soccer Association convention, which is big kids, fast kids," said Hellam. "We had a small, slower team. The reason we got this far was technical, technical, technical." North London, which also won the Ontario Cup U14 boys' title last year, will represent the province at the national U14 championships Oct. 8-13 in Charlottetown, P .E.I. Oakville will have another shot at its first Ontario Cup boys' title since 2009 when its U16 boys' B team faces the Burlington Bayhawks in the Tier 2 final this Sunday. The Blades blanked the Toronto Jr. Canadiens 4-0 Sunday in Toronto, outshooting their hosts 38-17. It was the first meeting between the clubs since the Jr. Canadiens defeated Oakville in a one-game playoff qualifier last spring, keeping the Blades out of the postseason for the first time in more than a decade. Daniel Mannella made 17 saves for the shutout, and Ross Sloan, Matthew Lippa, Kamil Tkaczuk and Christian Rajic scored Oakville's goals. The Blades' victory came after Oakville dropped its first two games of the season, 7-6 to the Burlington Cougars Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex and 3-1 to the Toronto Patriots Saturday in Toronto. In Friday's contest, Oakville scored five unanswered goals in the second period to take a 5-1 lead into the third, but the Cougars outscored the Blades 6-1 in the final frame. Burlington tied the game with 1:08 remaining in regulation, then won it on Spencer Herbst's power-play marker with 12 seconds left on the clock. Brandon Hughes, Joseph Mitchell, Ryan Burns, Ryan Markovic, Lippa and Rajic scored for Oakville Friday. Rajic added two assists for a three-point evening. Saturday, the Blades were held off the scoreboard until Ryan Garvey tallied with 6:52 left in regulation, trimming Toronto's lead to 2-1. The defending OJHL champions added an insurance marker four minutes later.
