One area that's easy to check is the valve core located in the valve stem. Over time, the delicate seals can wear out or become damaged by dirt. Here's how you can tell if your valve core is leaking and what you need to do to replace it. End view of valve stem and core Core wrench: The slot in the end fits over the core. Leaving the cap off for prolonged periods of time can cause a buildup of dust and grime that is forced into the tire when air is added.
