CHARTWELL.COM On Saturday night, more than 100 people gathered in the gardens of St. Jude's Anglican Church for a Sisters in Spirit candlelight vigil. It was one of hundreds held across Canada on Oct. 4 to honour the lives of missing and murdered aboriginal women and girls. Among a lineup of speakers, Len Fortune, a member of the Mi'kmaq Nation, reminded the crowd of whose land they were on; Sherri Saevil from the Halton Catholic School Board spoke; students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School read the true stories of six missing or murdered aboriginal women and girls; and Paula Laing, a teacher of aboriginal students at Sheridan College, also spoke. The evening aimed to raise awareness, educate and promote change. | photo by Inger MacKenzie special to the Beaver WHAT'S ON INSIDEHALTON.COM · · · · · · · · Local movie listings Local event listings Local news and opinion Used cars in our area Full local business directory Local classified listings Daily deals from WagJag Links to local announcements and apartment rentals BE INTERACTIVE Submit an event, Comment on a story, Submit a photo, video or article for consideration WITH YOUR COMMUNITY SITE CALL US ABOUT OUR SPECIAL EVENTS Make us part of your story. 180 Oak Park Blvd., Oakville 289-644-2960 * some conditions apply
