Nelson won Friday's Halton championship in dominant style over Aquinas, 60-26. Initially, the teams were under the impression that the loser of the Halton final would get a second life, by meeting the Hamilton Roman Catholic champion (Bishop Ryan) on Tuesday -- with the winner of that game taking on Nelson on Thursday in the all important Ontario Federation of Athletic Associations (OFSAA) qualifier. Instead, it will now just be Nelson taking on the Hamilton Roman Catholic champ on Thursday -- with Aquinas out of the picture. It's kind of a long story, but the confusion boils down to the new four-A division now in place at OFSAA. Raiders hope for a second chance By Norm Nelson BEAVER S P O R T S EDITOR St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders lost the Halton girls vol leyball championship in straight sets to the defending champion Georgetown Raiders at Sheridan College on Monday. "Ah we were right there," noted Raiders head coach Peter Szpakow ski. "I think the girls were a little nervous at first. You know they're playing the defending champs. "But I think the girls realized they can play with them. Hopefully we'll get another shot on Friday." In order to do that they have to win today's (Wednesday) Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) qualifier against Hamilton Roman Catholic cham pion Bishop Ryan. It's being played at a neutral school in Hamilton -- Cardinal Newman. The winner o f that game then takes on Georgetown for (See 'Aquinas' page D4) NATIONAL WOMENS HOCKEY LEAGUE!
