Young professionals putting SASS into the fight against cancer Young Oakville professionals Alexander Silver and Jacqueline Di Filippo are hosting the third Silverhearts Annual Saturday Social (SASS) gala Saturday, Nov. 15. It's co-hosted with McMaster University Health Sciences and based on the "immediate need to bring together the leaders of tomorrow to help build a brighter future that will consist of the best surgery and postoperative treatment options available for sarcoma cancer patients," stated a press release. The gala, founded by Silver and family friend Di Filippo, is also put on in honour of Silver's mother, the late Janice Silver. After experiencing a stomach pain in July 2011, Janice lost her battle with the rare cancer angiosarcoma in October 2011. Parish and countless programs at St. Vincent and St. Thomas Aquinas secondary schools. A 10-year volunteer with Milton's Darling Home for Kids, Janice was recognized by that agency as an "integral part of the volunteer team." Proceeds from this year's SASS will benefit McMaster University Health Sciences in an effort to help the fight against sarcoma cancer and find a cure to beat the devastating disease. Jacqueline De Filippo The 56-year-old mother of two lived in Oakville more than 20 years, with her husband Oliver and their sons, Alexander and Jonathan. The Silverhearts Association was founded in honour of Alexander Silver Janice, who, according to the non-profit's website, was involved with various Halton charitable works and beyond. Janice helped with the Felix Centre, Darling Home for Kids, Toronto Kidsfest, St. James The evening will host more than 500 local young professionals, aged 20-30, at the OE Banquet Hall and Conference Centre, 2245 Speers Rd. Dressed in formal business attire, those who attend will dine, dance and network, all while supporting the cause. This year's event will include a web interview with Dr. Michelle Ghert, full-time faculty and associate professor of Orthopedic Surgery at McMaster University, as well as a raffle, live entertainment 50/50 tickets and a "balloon pop experience."
