The Oakville Academy for the Arts, which participated in the parade for the fourth time this year, shared Best Overall Float and Best Commercial Float honours with first-time parade participant Live To Dance. Live to Dance was the winner of the People's Choice award with The Oakville Academy for the Arts a close second. Walton Memorial United Church rounded out the People's Choice awards with an honourable mention. A monetary prize of $500 is awarded to the Best Overall Float winners. This award is determined by the highest overall score. Charitable groups and schools keep the prize money, however, non-charitable groups must donate their prize money to the charity of their choice. Live to Dance Academy and Oakville Academy for the Arts will each donate their $500 winner's cheque to Kerr Street Ministries (KSM). This marks the third time the Oakville Academy for the Arts has donated their parade win to KSM. This year's Awards Presentation will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Operating Engineers Banquet Hall, 2245 Speers Rd. Following the presentation, the theme for the 2015 Oakville Santa Claus Parade will be chosen. Oakville charities were also big winners this year as residents were characteristically generous with their donations. The Friends of Falgarwood sold red noses in support of Wellspring-Halton and the Kinsmen Club of Oakville collected food and cash in support of the Salvation Army. The Oakville Professional Fire Fighters also collected toys for their annual drive. Once again, Oakville residents demonstrated the real spirit of the Christmas season is in sharing with and caring for others. -- Submitted by the Oakville Santa Claus Parade Committee www.edwardjones.com 31 | Thursday, November 27, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired?
