From bringing the clock tower to Towne Square to sending the proposed gas- red power plant packing from Ward 3, Bird takes pride in knowing he played a part in the political life of Oakville. The long-time Oakville Town and Halton Regional councillor is being honoured at a retirement party tonight (Thursday) at Compass Restaurant. Host Mayor Rob Burton said, "Councillor Bird has been a well-loved member of our Town and Regional councils -- he has played a de ning role in shaping Oakville since he was rst elected in 1976. His legacy is in the progress he achieved during his 12 terms on Town and Regional council, the police board, the conservation authority and the downtown BIA. Oakville residents elected Councillor Bird so many times because they trusted him to act on their behalf and he repaid that trust with hard work and professionalism." Here, we present photos of Bird over the years.
