The ball is the hospital's largest fundraising event and raised more than $150,000 last year with more than $74,000 coming from the silent and live auctions. Some downtown businesses that didn't donate money to the cause, have handed over items for the ball's auctions. "It just goes to show that Oakville's still a real community. It says a lot about the retailers and restaurateurs of downtown Oakville," said MurTay Famcombc, who co-owns Mug unn Cnhinumc with his wife. Gaye. and business partner Ron Southwick. Famcombe, who has operated his retail store at 215 Lakeshore Rd. E. for the past 15 years, was himself approached, to participate on the ball's organizing committee to gather corporate and pri vate donations. He decided to canvass the very place in which he works -- the downtown. The positive response he received has humbled him. "Rents are so high on Lakeshore Road. tion fun, a gourmet dinner and an evening of danc ing. It will begin with a 6:30 pm cocktail reception, followed by a 7:30 p.m. dinner. Emcee for the evening will be Christine Magee, president of Sleep Country Canada. The -Anita &osm~B«mh1 will provide the musical entertain ment. The evening will also include the silent and live auctions, raffles and dancing. The ball is the hospital's largest fundraising event and is being led by co-ehairs Peter and Tina Pritchard, and a volunteer committee. Heart failure is the most common reason for hospital admission and readmission. With a rate of over 12.000 cases in the past year alone, the Cardiology Department is one of the busiest areas at OTMH. The multidisciplinary team focuses on a mix of patient care and education tailored to each cardiac patient and their families. OTMH also offers outpatient programs such as the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Education Program and the Heart Function Clinic. Gold sponsors of the ball include: The Burlington Convention Centre. Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home. Mattamy Homes, The Oakville Beaver and Tim Hortons. Silver sponsors include Forget Me Not Flowers and UPS Supply Chain Solutions. Bronze sponsors include Delmanor Glen Abbey, Douglas & Debi Kee. Marquest Investment Counsel Inc.. The Murphy Foundation. Tocca Finita & M for Men. and Vince Tomenson Dickerson. The Foundation strives to ensure Oakville resi dents have access to the highest quality healthcare services, which government funding alone cannot provide. With community support, the Foundation works to ensure essential healthcare services and resources are available today for patients, commu nity and staff and will be there tomorrow to meet the community's growing needs. Business is competitive and it's more difficult now than ever it has been to be a retailer or restaurateur in downtown Oakville." said Famcombe. Therefore, the overwhelming positive response "is indicative o f the kind of people in business downtown," said Famcombe. Both Famcombe and Paul Barrington, o f down town m K v iiic s B arrtngnm P u r> Ltd.. 209 Lakeshore Rd. E.. promise to each match dona tions up to $1,500. And they have.
