Gift of flowers helps brighten the day for patients continued from p.1 So, shortly after joining the volunteer team, Mailhot approached Frank Rea at Forget-Me-Not Flowers. The two have struck up a partnership, with Rea providing flowers for Mailhot to deliver each week for the past decade. "I couldn't do what Roger does," Rea said. "One time, I delivered teddy bears for Christmas, and I was just too emotional. You have to have a certain type of personality to be able to do what Roger does." Each week, Mailhot arrives at the Chartwell Road florist where Carol Delapenha will have an arrangement of flowers waiting. "They're such beautiful flowers, big full roses, they always trigger a reaction," Mailhot said. "It's amazing how it does touch people. It brings them a little serenity in their life and it's an expression that you understand the challenge they are facing." The flowers also serve as an ice-breaker, sparking the conversation between Mailhot the patient. 7 | Friday, March 13, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com It's heartwarming what he does. Anything I can do for the community to help out. I'd just love to put a webcam on (Roger's) head and follow him. Forget-Me-Not Flowers Frank Rea Rea, who has been donating flowers to Toronto's Princess Margaret Hospital for 25 years, said he's been happy to help Mailhot bring some comfort to the patients at OTMH. "It's heartwarming what he does," Rea said. "Anything I can do for the community to help out. I'd just love to put a webcam on (Roger's) head and follow him." And although Rea isn't along to see the effect the flowers have on the patients and their families, he said it truly is appreciated. "The gratitude (from families) on behalf of the patients, you know it really means something to them," Mailhot said.
