Dog Guides Open House April 18 The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is inviting the community to learn more about the organization during its annual spring open house Saturday (April 18). The event will showcase Dog Guides' six canine-assistive programs -- canine vision, hearing ear, service, autism assistance, seizure response and diabetic alert -- and its foster puppy program. Dog Guides-in-training and foster puppies will be on hand with trainers and staff at the 152 Wilson St. headquarters from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The event will also include training demonstrations, tours and a silent auction. The Lions Foundation of Canada is a national charitable organization with a mission to assist Canadians with medical or physical disabilities by providing them specially-trained dog guides at no cost. To date, more than 2,200 dog guides have been placed with people across Canada, according to the Lions Foundation. The cost of raising, training and matching a dog guide with a qualifying applicant is approximately $25,000.
