The Oakville Beaver honoured among best in North America The Oakville Beaver has been honoured with two Local Media Association (LMA) 2014 Editorial Contest awards in the annual North American-based community newspaper competition. The Beaver captured a first place for Best Feature Photo and a second place award in the Best Feature category, both in the over 20,001 circulation class. The Beaver's best Feature Photo win was for an entry by photographer Graham Paine of a paddler, Taking Flight, The Best Feature nod came for reporter David Lea's cold case story, Darlene Tucker Still Missing After 30 Years. The Beaver's neighbouring, sister publications The Burlington Post and The Flamborough Review also received multiple honours. The Review came second in the Best-In-depth Reporting category and was third in Best Editorial Writing and Best Multimedia Coverage for community newspapers with a circulation up to 20,000. The Post captured first place in the contest's Best News Photo, Best Feature Series and Best Editorial Page categories for community newspapers with a circulation of 20,001 or greater. Halton Hospitals: Building Our Health Care, a four-part series produced by a team including Haltonbased reporters, photographers and editors captured first in the Best Feature Series category. Honourable mentions went to the Post for Best Local Election Coverage (Ontario Votes 2014), Best Multimedia Coverage (Working 9 To 5) and Best Sports Photo for Paine's image of three participants in the Halton District School Board's 27th annual Special Athletes Track Meet.
