The Town launched the Downtown Plan in December 2013 and has been working to capture the ideal vision of downtown Oakville from residents and business owners. Based on this input, the Town's DCH team will present three options June 24 and residents can say what they like best. Town staff said community input continues to be critical to the Downtown Plan. With the launch of Sheltersafe.ca (www. sheltersafe.ca) women and children across the country will have a one-stop connection to help in their community any time of the day or night. The new site provides a single point of information for women seeking safety by quickly identifying a shelter within a geographic region. A map provides telephone numbers and websites, while protecting the confidential locations of the shelters. "Help is available to you wherever you live. If you are experiencing domestic violence or know of someone who is, reach out. We can help," Diane Beaulieu, executive director of Halton Women's Place, stated in a press release. Sheltersafe.ca emphasizes that women do not need to reside in a shelter residence in order to access shelter services, because in Help is available to you wherever you live. The resource was developed by the Canadian Network of Women's Shelters and Transition Houses, which represents more than 350 women's shelters across Canada.
