Sharing the Spirit Awards of Excellence Earlier this year, the Halton Catholic District School Board hosted its annual celebration of Catholic student excellence. One student representative was selected from each elementary and secondary school in the Catholic school system to receive the Sharing The Spirit Student Award of Excellence. The honour is given to students who best demonstrate outstanding qualities in Catholic leadership, family commitment, involvement in school affairs, involvement in community activities and dedication to a difficult situation or task. Also recognized at the same awards ceremony were recipients of the board-wide Special Education Advisory Committee's (SEAC) Spirit of Inclusion Awards. Numerous Oakville students were honoured at this year's ceremony. All photos and profiles were supplied to the Oakville Beaver by the Halton Catholic District School Board. SPECIAL EDUCATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE (S.E.A.C.) SPIRIT OF INCLUSION 2015 RECIPIENTS ELEMENTARY RECIPIENT: · Darwin Glencross, Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School, Milton: The first one to notice when someone in his school community needs assistance, Darwin goes out of his way to show kindness to others every day. Through his words and deeds to everyone he encounters, Darwin exemplifies following the `Golden Rule'. SECONDARY RECIPIENT: · Hannah Hansen, Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School, Burlington: Hannah Hansen is a builder of the school community and is committed to the positive growth of inclusion at Notre Dame and in her community at large. She leads by example, has an unending energy to be positive, and is heavily involved in both Notre Dame and the larger community. Her commitment to school activities and her volunteer work in the community demonstrates an excellent attitude and causes others to feel valued and included. She takes initiative and demonstrates a strong sense of leadership, faith, and inclusion to her peers, younger students, and adults alike. · Noah Bruce, St. Andrew School: Noah is a dynamic and well-rounded student who demonstrates our Catholic values through his many friendships and strong rapport with both students and staff in our school community. He eagerly involves himself in a variety of extra-curricular activities and exemplifies himself as a leader of our faith through his leadership as an altar server in our local church and assistance in our school community. · Ashley Wang, St. Bernadette School: Ashley is an inspirational student who embodies true gospel values and demonstrates kindness and unwavering acceptance of all. Her radiant smile brings sunshine, laughter and peace to our school community and her songs fill our hearts with joy. · Claudia Parsons, St. Dominic School: Claudia consistently demonstrates Catholic leadership qualities with her daily involvement in school affairs, community activities, and in her relationships with peers and adults. · Rebecca Delduco, St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School: Rebecca is a remarkable student leader who chosen as our Prefect Captain for her outstanding ability to liaise with both students and staff alike. She is a mature young woman with an exceptional academic standing who consistently maintains a positive attitude and is an extraordinary role model for other young women as well as for all students in our school. · Briana Da Silva, St. James School: Briana is a Catholic leader of the school who tries to grow in her faith every day. Briana is an active member of the school community with academics, sports and volunteering. · Sara Reyes, St. Joan of Arc School: Sara joined St. Matthew Parish upon their arrival from Venezuela in June 2013 and has since learned English and excels academically. Sara demonstrates her leadership qualities and involvement in school affairs by becoming involved with SJOAs Student Ambassadors. · Caitlyn Lavictoire, St. John School: Caitlyn is a Catholic leader, she serves others in a modest way and has helped in the Kindergarten room at our school for the past several years.
