The festival, held at the school's Oakville location (2359 Bristol Circle), will not just entertain guests, but all net proceeds will go directly to a scholarship fund bene tting "up-and-coming music students," according to festival organizers. "Merriam Music is a strong advocate for music education throughout North America, and we have consistently supported efforts to make music affordable and accessible for those who desire to experience it," states the music school's website. "The Skyfestival will be a major source of funding for the Merriam Scholarship Fund, a nancial assistance program which provides underprivileged and at-risk youth access to high-quality music lessons." While the music festival is free, donations will be accepted. The event will feature some of Canada's most well-known jazz, funk, R&B and fusion acts. On Saturday, headliners include Toronto's eight-piece original funk and R&B group KC Roberts and the Live Revolution, and Canadian and Juno Award-winning jazz vocalist Molly Johnson. Sunday, festival-goers will be treated to The Heavyweights, a six-piece modern brass band, and the sold-out ticketed event featuring twotime Grammy nominee and jazz organist Joey Defrancesco. Skyfestival will be open from noon to 10 p.m. both days, and will also feature a kid zone, barbecue, licensed beer and liquor area, free parking and non-stop music on two outdoor stages.
