www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, August 6, 2015 | 12 New Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital to open Dec. 13 by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff If you need to go to the hospital, head to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) on Reynolds Street. If you need to go to the hospital as of Dec. 13, head to Dundas Street and Third Line. The hospital with the historic OTMH name will open the doors at its new location at Dundas Street and Third Line on Sunday, Dec. 13. While construction reached the substantial completion point on Friday, July 31, the move and all the details associated with it will take place over the coming months to ready the new building to provide healthcare. "While the new hospital may look open from the outside, there is still more work to be done to ensure the building is prepared to receive patients when it opens in December," said Denise Hardenne, president and CEO of Halton Healthcare Services (HHS). "Residents seeking medical care from our hospital should continue to come to the existing hospital location at 327 Reynolds St., both for scheduled appointments and emergency care. "The months ahead are going to be fastpaced, exciting and challenging as we ready ourselves for the next chapter of caring for our community. While under construction, the project was known as the new Oakville hospital, however, HHS recently confirmed the historic Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital name will be transferred to the site as of Dec. 13 when the doors at the new hospital open -- also marking the simultaneous closure of the 327 Reynolds St. hospital location. HHS announced Friday, construction of the new hospital is now complete with the $2-billion project coming in on time and on budget. "We are incredibly excited about achieving this significant milestone in our journey to the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and extend our thanks to the thousands of individuals who contributed to the construction of this state-of-the-art building," said Hardenne. Officials said HHS will spend the next four months preparing the 1.6-million-square-foot hospital for opening on Dec. 13. This preparation includes extensive cleaning, setting up workstations and equipment, stocking supplies, testing and commissioning building systems and technology, and orientation and training of more than 3,500 staff, physicians and volunteers in a facility three times the size of their current workspace. HHS officials said a comprehensive communications campaign will be launched this fall to help inform the community of this significant change in access to care. As part of the campaign, members of the public will be invited to have a sneak peak of the new hospital in October during a series of planned open houses. Dates will be announced in September. The Town of Oakville has committed contribution of a local share of $130 million towards the new hospital, which will have a capacity for 457 inpatient beds and offer a full range of acute health care services.
