Flynn announces Bronte GO parking and cash for Make Your Move by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 13 | Thursday, August 20, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn said Friday that commuters at the Bronte GO Station now have 200 more parking spaces available. The new spaces, next to the existing lot at Bronte GO Station, are part of a station improvement project that includes repaving the parking lot and rehabilitating platform canopies. The Province's improvements to the Bronte GO Station are part of what Flynn called the largest infrastructure investment in Ontario's history, with more than $130 billion invested over 10 years. This initiative is expected to support more than 110,000 jobs per year on average, through projects such as roads, bridges, transit systems, schools and hospitals. Ontario's long-term infrastructure plan is intended to help connect regions, develop new economic opportunities and improve quality of life for Ontarians by supporting critical infrastructure projects across the province. Make Your Move Flynn announced Tuesday the Province will contribute more than $92,700 to help Oakvillians of all ages and abilities lead active, healthy lives. The cash, from the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund, will help Make Your Move Oakville develop physical literacy through education, training and new physical activity programs and tools. Make Your Move Oakville is the Town of Oakville's public education awareness program which promotes the benefits of healthy, active lifestyles and encourages residents to become more active through various sport and recreational activities. "Our government is proud to support community organizations that improve access to sport, recreation and physical activity for the people of Oakville," said Flynn in a press release. Flynn said the contribution supports the Province's Healthy Kids strategy, which is aimed at reducing childhood obesity; its Stepping Up framework, which encourages a shared approach to improving the well-being of young people; and building on the positive legacy of the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games. The Oakville MPP noted sport, recreation and physical activity contribute to positive economic and social outcomes, such as increased productivity, improved student achievement and reduced health-care costs.
