While under construction, the project was known as the New Oakville Hospital, but once it's open, the new hospital will carry the historic Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital name. · The OTMH name stems from a decision taken in 1943 to honour the servicemen and servicewomen from the Oakville area in naming Oakville's hospital. It also incorporated `Oakville' and `Trafalgar' in OTMH, a reference to the Township of Trafalgar, which merged with the Town of Oakville. Both municipalities provided funding for the original facility.
