Instead of just operating his annual event on Halloween night, the long-time Oakville resident is running his outdoor attraction every weekend in October at his home at 119 Walby Dr. Although located in Oakville, in the area of Third Line and Hixon Street, Wilsons ` Haunted Backyard' has attracted guests from all over Halton, and beyond, over the years. Opening night was O ct 2 "We're going to be open for 10 nights so we expect a minimum (of) 3,000 visitors and we' ve set a goal of raising $20,000 for cancer research," said Wilson, 47, a former film industry investor. "We're stepping up our game." As a youngster, Wilson always enjoyed seeing people dressed up in costumes when he went trick-or-treating. But instead of having a haunted house, he decided to have a haunted backyard, something hes now operated for more than a decade. Wilson has been busy building his attraction since September, but can always use volunteer builders and workers to help on nights when the Haunted Backyard is open for business. Besides the backyard being open every Friday and Saturday from 6-9 p.m. in October, visitors can also purchase several items that weren' t for sale in past years. "We're going to have a screaming booth c n where you' ll have your photo taken while you're CL C D screaming and will instantly print out a high I > quality framed 4x6 picture for $20," Wilson said. "Your scream actually triggers the camera so your photo will be taken in mid-scream. "We' re also selling a very limited amount of T-shirts with our logo for $20 and chocolates carrying our logo. Each chocolate costs $1 or a bag of 25 for $20." Several local business are allowing him to set up jars in their businesses and some local families will also be going door-to-door selling the chocolates, Wilson said.
