A8 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday June 13, 2001 U.S. man released after filing for refugee status Howard Keith Henson, the 58-yearold California man, who'd fled a sen tencing hearing in the United States and was arrested at Oakville Place last month, has been released. "The release is conditional," said Charles Hawkins, acting information officer with Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC). Henson was held in detention after his arrest on an Immigration warrant the afternoon of Monday, May 28 at Oakville Place. The arrest was carried out by the Halton Regional Police Tactical Rescue Unit (TRU) and the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad. No weapons were found on Henson. After a follow-up detention review, Henson was kept in custody. Last week, at his second detention review on June 7, he was released, but he must continue to sign in with Immigration and he must follow through with the hearings associated with his claim of refugee status. That case will be heard by Immigration's Refugee Board. "There's no information that he's being sought for extradition," said Hawkins, noting that Henson's U.S. conviction is what authorities here consider a misdemeanor. Henson had been living in area of Sixth Line in Oakville since May 12, after he skipped out before he could be sentenced in a California court last month. Henson had been up for sentencing in a Hemet, California court in early May on a crime against the controver sial Church of Scientology. Henson's conviction was related to promoting hate against Scientology which is considered a church in the United States but not in Canada. Henson had been convicted under the California Penal Code of "inter fering with a religion" for picketing outside the Church of Scientology's compound in Hemet, California. Henson has had a long-standing dispute with the Church of Scientology as evidenced on his Internet site where a legal defence fund has been initiated. mm The Oakville Beaver My name is Connor. Although the heel can be painful at anytime, it is usually worse upon getting out of bed in the morning and after resting - as the main band "tightens" while resting. The "band" can also calcify as its attachment to the heel bone - and this is what is referred to as the "spur." The cause of the problem is thought to be, in part, modern living. more time spent standing and sit ting, the foot muscles weakened causing heel pain. Fortunately, there are various painless and very effective remedies available today.
