Nominated in a variety of categories, the award winners will be presented at the YMCA Breakfast for Peace Thursday, Nov. 19 -- all part of Peace Week activities Nov. 14-21. Youth Alvin Leung Leung is active in school clubs, faith groups, locally and in mission work globally,. He is Youth Fellowship Co-Chair of the Mississauga Chinese Alliance Church; a member of the Lighthouse Christian Club at Iroquois Ridge High School; A Alvin Leung part of the RCMP National Youth Advisory Council; and volunteers at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Jack Mogus Mogus started Change by YOUth when he was 12 to ship skates and hockey equipment to Aboriginal children and teens living in remote communities. Jack Mogus David Vidican Vidican was nominated by teachers and students for standing up against bullying aNd now participates in singing corals at seniors homes during the holidays. He has volunteered as a Junior Leader for the Conquest Club, a summer David Vidican camp for kids in grades two to five and has helped collect and send gently-used clothes and shoes to children in Romania. Recently , he became a science assistant at the DaVinci Science & Technology Club where he educates and inspires other kids. Aiza Abid Abid created Aiza's Teddy Abidbear Foundation in 2013 to send stuffed toys to children at local homeless shelters and children's hospitals in Ontario. It has donated more Aiza Abid than 3,000 stuffed toys. Abid ran the Me-to-We and Social Justice Club at her school and recently organized a school supply drive to collect donations for a school in South Asia. She has been instrumental in collecting more than 5,000 school supplies. to support her initiatives in Africa. Today, the foundation runs three orphanages, has built a school and has sponsored children's education and healthcare in Tanzania and Uganda. Peter Kolisnyk Kolisnyk is a volunteer on the board of Home Suite Hope, which helps women in situations of domestic abuse, and also on the board of the YMCA of Oakville which helps underprivileged kids have the Peter Kolisnyk opportunity to go to camp. Recently Kolisnyk took on a new challenge: running an Iron Man of Hope to raise funds and awareness for Home Suite Hope and the YMCA. He raised close to $30,000 for both charities.
