www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, November 20, 2015 | 18 M Visiting authors bringing incredible tales to Oakville Public Library welcome Sonia Faruqi, Douglas Gibson and Sheila Creighton. An Evening with Sonia Faruqi (Nov. 26, 7 p.m.) Sonia Faruqi, an Ivy League graduate and investment banker, had no idea that the night she arrived at the doorstep of a dairy farm would mark the beginning of a journey that would ultimately wind all the way around the world. Instead of turning away from the animal cruelty she came to witness, Faruqi made the most courageous decision of her life: a commitment to change things. Driven by impulsive will and searing passion, Faruqi left behind everything she knew and loved to search the planet for solutions to benefit animals, human health and the environment. At the Nov. 26 event, Faruqi will speak about her findings and offer a preview of her book, Project Animal Farm. Tickets cost $15 and are available at all library branches. A History of Caring (Nov. 29, 2 p.m.) In partnership with Halton Healthcare, Oakville Public Library will be hosting author Sheila Creighton for the official book launch of A History of Caring: OTMH Celebrates 65 Years. Creighton will give an informative, inspiring presentation about the book and talk about how the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital has evolved over the years and the vital role it plays in our community. Refreshments will be served, and copies of the book will be available for a suggested donation of $20. This is a free event and those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by phone at 905-815-2044 or email at oplreference@ oakville.ca. An Evening with Douglas Gibson (Dec. 3, 7 p.m.) Douglas Gibson is a prominent figure in the Canadian literary world, having worn the hats of writer, editor and publisher. In his newest memoir, Across Canada By Story, Gibson shares stories about great Canadian writers such as W.O Mitchell, Alice Munro, Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje and many others. Whether fly fishing in Haida Gwaii or sailing off the coast of Labrador, Gibson is a first-rate ambassador for Canada and the power of great stories. This event is presented in partnership with A Different Drummer Books. Tickets cost $15 and are available for purchase online, at all library branches and at A Different Drummer Books, 513 Locust St., Burlington.
