Local public school teachers to vote on new deal Dec. 1 by Tim Whitnell Metroland West Media 33 | Thursday, November 26, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The Halton District School Board and the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), Halton Teachers Local, have reached a tentative agreement on a local contract. The deal has to be ratified by local Halton ETFO teacher members and the HDSB. Terms of the agreement won't be made public until it is ratified. The local vote is Dec. 1. ETFO Halton represents more than 2,800 Halton elementary teachers. Provincially, ETFO represents 78,000 elementary public school teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals. Earlier this month, 86 percent of ETFO teacher and occasional teacher members province-wide, including those in Halton, voted in favour of a separately bargained central deal with the Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA) and the government. "We have been without a contract since Aug. 31, 2014.... The agreement was arrived at after 21 days at the bargaining table," Halton Local President Marg Macfarlane said in a press release. "The new two-tiered bargaining protocol meant we had to follow an exceptionally lengthy process before reaching this local tentative agreement," she said.
