The free event, titled "Speak up, reach out... because every life is worth living," is open to all Halton residents and will take place at the Oakville Conference Centre, 2515 Wyecroft Rd., from 8:30 a.m. to noon. "The Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition continues to work hard in our community to raise awareness about suicide through education and by advocating for those who need support," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. "The annual meeting is an excellent opportunity to hear about the great work happening in Halton and to gain insights from experts through their individual stories." The morning will feature two keynote speakers. Stéphane Grenier is a 29-year Canadian military veteran who served in Rwanda and Afghanistan. "He is a powerful speaker who provides a blend of evidence, personal experience and humour, giving audiences a firm understanding of how we need to re-humanize the healing and recovery process," stated a media release. Sam Fiorella is the co-founder and Managing Director of The Lucas Fiorella Friendship Bench (thefriendshipbench.org), a not-forprofit organization focused on decreasing the suicide rate among Canadian students through on-campus education, awareness campaigns and peer-to-peer connections.
