Halton Women's Place benefits from $1M foundation by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 13 | Thursday, March 3, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Halton Women's Place (HWP) will benefit from the proceeds of a $1 million foundation, announced last Saturday (Feb. 27) at the charity's Red Carpet Affair Gala at the Oakville Conference Centre. Approximately 453 people attended the annual event that raises awareness about violence against women and children and fundraise to maintain HWP's local shelter and support services for abused women and their dependent children. The Oscar-themed gala, which featured cocktails, dinner, live and silent auctions, draws and dancing raised upwards of $60,000. In addition, Dr. Bill Love Jr., son of the late Dr. Bill Love Sr. of Burlington, announced that his mother, Aileen Love, 93, has developed the Bill Love Senior and Aileen Love Foundation in the amount of $1 million with proceeds going to Halton Women's Place. While exactly how much the charity will annually receive from the foundation depends on market forces, Diane Beaulieu, HWP executive director expects it will be substantial. "I'm amazed," said Beaulieu. "When Dr. Bill Love Jr., made the announcement, I didn't have the words to express what was in my heart because this will make a difference to women and their children Diane Beaulieu "That memory stayed with her and when she had the ability to make a difference in her community, she chose Halton Women's Place to establish this foundation for," said Beaulieu. The funds raised, said Beaulieu, as well as the foundation proceeds would go a long way to helping HWP meet its annual budget requirements. She said it would allow the organization to open its doors to more women and children and meet their needs. The additional funds could also help HWP improve its services, said Beaulieu, potentially by adding a new staff member. At the Halton Women's Place (HWP) Red Carpet Affair charity gala, it was announced HWP would benefit from the new $1-million Bill Love Senior and Aileen Love Foundation. They will be able to leave abusive relationships." Beaulieu said she had spent an afternoon speaking with Aileen Love about the work Halton Women's Place does in the community. She said Aileen recalled a time when a friend came to her door seeking help after being abused. 1510 Speers Rd. (at 3rd Line) Oakville Tel: 905-827-2243 Jeep 4x4 $395/Weekend Services While You Stay!
