Their New Year begins with the Spring Equinox, and on the 13th day of the New Year, known as Sizdeh-be-dar, Iranians traditionally leave the cities for picnics in the countryside. Wheat or lentil sprouts they grew in their homes for the occasion are tossed into running water to symbolize throwing away of everyday cares.
